On the sixth day of Sivan, three thousand three hundred and twenty five years ago, over two million Jewish people stood at the foot of Mount Sinai and received the Torah from G‑d. Also present were the souls of Jews of future generations yet to be born. The traditions of the Torah have been the central-most factor in the Jewish nation's survival throughout history.
Towards the end of Deuteronomy, G‑d commanded the Jews "Write for you
this song (31:19)." The Talmudic sages have interpreted this as a command for each individual to write a Torah scroll, or at least participate, either physically or monetarily, in the completion of one. Every letter in the Torah represents a Jewish soul, and a completed Torah signifies complete Jewish unity.
Jewish Americans’ impact on our nation predates even America’s founding. It was nearly 360 years ago that a group of Jewish immigrants, twenty-three impoverished Jews arrived by ship in September,1654, to New York City, then known as New Amsterdam.
"Jewish immigrants from all over the world wove new threads into our cultural fabric with rich traditions and indomitable faith, and their
descendants pioneered incredible advances in science and the arts," .
"Teachings from the Torah lit the way toward a more perfect Union"
