This year is a special year of Hakhel. It follows the Sabbatical 'Shmitah' year when, in the past, all of Israel would gather in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem to hear the Jewish King read portions of the Torah.

"At the end of the Sabbatical year, during the Sukkot festival, you shall gather the men, women and children, and also the stranger, so they may hear and learn to fulfill the Torah." (Deuteronomy 31,12)

In the spirit of this important Mitzvah, it is customary during this year to organize Jewish gatherings and assemblies, family and class reunions, conferences etc.

By recreating this momentous Mitzvah, we will hasten our observance of the real mitzvah of "Hakhel" with the coming of the Righteous Moshiach, speedily in our days.
