On this Date in the Jewish Calendar:
Lag B'Omer -- literally the "33rd day of the Omer" -- marks the yahrtzeit (death) of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai. This is a day of great celebration, as on this day Rabbi Shimon revealed the Kabbalistic teachings of "The Zohar." To celebrate Lag B'Omer, Jews around the world light huge bonfires, symbolically illuminating the deeper truths of Torah, as revealed by Rabbi Shimon.
