Jewish Book Club to feature Dr Obrien’s book
In response to much interest in the Dr. O’Brien’s book "An Examined Life is a Life Worth Living" at the Maimonides “Diamonds & Dessert” dedication of the new Science Laboratory and Technology Center in his memory. A newly formed monthly Jewish book club in Clifton park will discuss "An Examined Life” Thursday July 24th 8pm at Borders Books -Clifton park 3 Southside Dr.
Dr. O’Brien’s wrote his book "An Examined Life is a Life Worth Living" during his illness several months before he passed away in 2000. Originally intended as an inspirational-will for his children, as he writes in the introduction, the book has also become a source of guidance and inspiration for the entire Jewish community, where he has gained much respect and admiration.
Dr. O’Brien majored in Chemistry at Brown University, and earned a masters degree in Physics there as well. After marrying Vicky Kaner, they moved to Buffalo NY where Jonathan attended medical school. He worked in Emergency Medicine in the Capital Region, at Albany Medical Center, and later at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
Dr. O’Brien passed away on Saturday night June 25th, 2000, at St. Peter's hospital, as Rabbi Israel Rubin, family and friends around his bedside sang meditational Chasidic melodies. He left behind his wife Vicky and eight growing bright children, Natana (who just won a Beinecke Scholarship) Zizi, Shoshana, Rebecca, Eli, Nechama, Meir and Chananya.
